Community Engagement

Community Engagement

After our team meeting at Vimala’s Curryblossom Café, we visited two community sites in southern Orange County.

At the Carrboro Farmers Market we were able to talk with a few vendors and visit with families at the play structure. Hearing directly from people we have not met is a great way to get to know segments of the community outside of our own circle of friends. We are grateful for the opportunity to hear what matters to all segments of our southern Orange County community.

The Carrboro Farmers’ Market creates and sustains a vibrant and innovative community that supports our local farmers and artisans, while extending the benefits of local food to the greater community.

All of the goods sold at the Carrboro Farmers Market are produced within 50 miles of the town. The farmers and artisans who produce those goods also run the Market. This nationally recognized gem of local organization is home to many of the most talented growers and artisans in our region.

Southern Community Park Sign

From there we drove to South Community Park, a beautiful recreation area and playground. There we were able to talk with families about what county commissioners do and why María is running. Again, we were able to hear what is on people’s minds, and what drives them to love southern Orange County as well as their concerns about the cost of living and the future of Chapel Hill and Carrboro.

If you are not familiar with either of these local landmarks, we encourage you to get outside on a Saturday and enjoy what they have to offer. Community engagement is one of María’s core values, and these spaces provide an excellent opportunity for you to engage with your neighbors and the wider community.

The video below can give you an overview of what to expect at the Farmers’ Market. While most of what you will see represents the market in Spring, a number of the vendors are there throughout the year.
