TO PROTECT MY COMMUNITY: ALL ORANGE COUNTY RESIDENTS.
I will do everything in my power to protect our community from the excesses of fascism. As an immigrant myself, I know the terrible climate of fear that we are living through. Many of our neighbors, including citizens born and raised in Orange County, are unable to go to work or enjoy our community’s amenities because of the threat of racist raids.
I will push back—hard—against the abuses of the Trump administration and the extreme, right-wing General Assembly. I will defend the Constitution and the rule of law at every opportunity, and if necessary, will go to jail, as I did on the first Moral Monday in 2013, to protect my community.
TO STAY ENGAGED WITH THE COMMUNITY AFTER THE ELECTION.
I will not be satisfied with winning a seat and waiting for options to be presented for votes. That is a recipe for dissatisfaction on all sides. I plan to go to the community, to the organizations working directly with our neighbors, to:

- Educate and
- Empower
our community to bring the most creative and innovative solutions before the County Commission for action.
TO LOOK FOR CREATIVE NEW PATHS TO ENSURE PROSPERITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE in Orange County.
Our schools are losing students and losing ground. It’s not enough to blame the General Assembly. We have to partner with both school systems, Durham Tech and UNC to support affordable housing for staff, support teacher development, and develop exciting career paths for our youth. I will work to bring together political, business and education leaders as well as parents and students to create a shared vision for Orange County’s future.
